Our Process
Step 1
Excavation, Rebar, Plumbing and Gas Line Installation
Plumbing Installation: Once the excavation is complete, plumbing lines are installed. These lines include water supply and return lines, as well as drainage pipes. The plumbing system ensures proper circulation and filtration of water within the pool.
Rebar Placement: Rebar, short for reinforcing bar, is a crucial component for reinforcing the concrete structure of the pool. The construction team places the rebar in a grid-like pattern throughout the excavated area. This reinforcement adds strength and durability to the pool’s structure.
Gas Line Installation: If the pool will have a gas-powered heater or other gas-powered features, such as fire pits or grills, gas lines are installed during this phase. These lines are connected to the main gas supply and are carefully laid out according to safety regulations.
Inspection: Once the dirtwork, plumbing, rebar, and gas lines are in place, an inspection is conducted to ensure that everything meets local building codes and safety standards. This step ensures that the groundwork is properly prepared before proceeding to the next phase of pool construction.
Step 2
Shotcrete Application
Preparation: Before applying shotcrete, the pool’s excavation and plumbing work should be completed. The rebar reinforcement should be in place and properly secured to provide structural strength to the pool.
Mixing: Shotcrete is a mixture of cement, aggregates (such as sand or small stones), and water. These components are mixed in precise proportions to achieve the desired consistency and strength. The mixture is often prepared at an off-site location or by specialized equipment on-site.
Application: Shotcrete is applied using a high-pressure hose or nozzle. It is pneumatically projected onto the pool’s surfaces, such as the walls and the floor. The high velocity of the application helps to ensure proper compaction and adherence to the rebar.
Shaping and Finishing: As the shotcrete is applied, pool builders shape and sculpt it to create the desired contours and features. This may involve smoothing the surfaces, creating steps or benches, and shaping the pool’s overall design. Finishing touches, such as troweling or brushing, can be done to achieve the desired texture and appearance.
Curing: After the shotcrete is applied, it needs time to cure and gain strength. Curing typically involves keeping the concrete surface moist by covering it with plastic sheeting or using a curing compound. This process allows the shotcrete to harden and develop its maximum strength.
Waterproofing and Surface Treatments: Once the shotcrete has cured, additional steps may be taken to waterproof the pool’s surface. This can involve applying a waterproofing membrane or coating to prevent water penetration. Surface treatments, such as tile or plaster finishes, may also be added to enhance the pool’s appearance and durability.
Step 3
Hardscaping and coping are added to the pool.
Preparation: The construction team prepares the area where the coping and hardscape will be installed. This involves cleaning the surface, ensuring proper drainage, and leveling the ground as needed. Any necessary grading or excavation work is completed to create a stable foundation for the hardscape materials.
Coping Installation: The coping material, such as natural stone, pavers, or concrete, is carefully installed around the perimeter of the pool. The coping is secured and leveled to create a smooth and visually appealing edge. The construction team pays attention to proper alignment and spacing to achieve a consistent and balanced appearance.
Hardscape Construction: Once the coping is in place, the construction of hardscape elements begins. This may involve laying pavers or concrete for pathways, decks, or patio areas surrounding the pool. The chosen materials are installed according to the design plan, taking care to ensure proper spacing, leveling, and adequate drainage.
Finishing Touches: After the main hardscape construction is complete, additional finishing touches are added to enhance the overall aesthetic appeal and functionality of the area. This can include the installation of outdoor furniture, decorative elements, planters, or lighting fixtures to create an inviting and enjoyable space.
Clean-up and Inspection: Once the coping and hardscape installation is finished, the construction site is cleaned up, and any debris or excess materials are removed. A thorough inspection is conducted to ensure that the coping and hardscape elements are securely in place and meet the desired standards of quality and craftsmanship.
Step 4
Waterline and Step Tiles
Preparation: Before beginning the installation, the pool surface where the waterline and step tiles will be placed should be clean, dry, and free from any debris or contaminants. Any existing tiles or materials in the designated areas may need to be removed.
Tile Selection: The pool owner or designer chooses the desired waterline and step tiles based on their preferences and the overall pool design. There are various options available, including ceramic, glass, porcelain, or natural stone tiles, each with its own aesthetic and functional characteristics.
Measurement and Layout: Precise measurements are taken to determine the placement and spacing of the waterline and step tiles. This helps ensure a visually appealing and symmetrical installation. Layout lines or guidelines may be marked on the pool surface to guide the tile installation process.
Adhesive Application: A suitable adhesive or mortar is applied to the back of each tile using a notched trowel. The adhesive is carefully spread to ensure proper coverage and adherence to the pool surface. It’s important to use an adhesive specifically formulated for underwater or wet conditions.
Tile Installation: The tiles are individually placed onto the adhesive, aligning them with the layout lines and maintaining consistent spacing between each tile. The tiles may need to be pressed gently to ensure they are properly bonded to the pool surface. Tile spacers can be used to maintain even grout lines if desired.
Grouting: Once the tiles are securely in place, grout is applied to fill the gaps between the tiles. The grout is spread over the tiles using a rubber float, ensuring that the gaps are completely filled. Excess grout is then wiped away, and the tile surface is cleaned to achieve a neat and uniform appearance.
Curing and Sealing: After the grout has set, the tiles need time to cure and dry. This usually takes a few days, during which the pool should be kept empty or covered to protect the newly installed tiles. Depending on the type of tiles and grout used, a sealant may be applied to enhance the tiles’ durability and resistance to water and chemicals.
Step 5
Pebble Finish
Standard Pebble Finish: The standard pebble finish consists of small pebbles mixed with a cement-based binder. The pebbles vary in size and color, creating a textured and visually interesting surface. This finish is known for its durability and ability to withstand heavy use.
Polished Pebble Finish: Polished pebble finishes involve a similar mixture of pebbles and a binder, but they are polished to create a smoother and more refined surface. This finish provides a luxurious look and a comfortable feel underfoot.
Exposed Aggregate Finish: An exposed aggregate finish combines small pebbles with various aggregates such as glass beads, shells, or stones. The finish is achieved by removing the top layer of the cement binder, revealing the embedded pebbles and aggregates. This creates a unique, textured surface that adds visual interest and slip resistance to the pool.
Specialty Pebble Finishes: Some manufacturers offer specialty pebble finishes that incorporate specific types of pebbles or aggregates for a distinctive appearance. Examples include finishes with colored glass beads or blends of pebbles in specific color schemes. These specialty finishes allow for greater customization and can create stunning visual effects in the pool.
Custom Blends and Accents: Pool owners also have the option to create custom blends or add accent features using pebble finishes. By combining different colors or sizes of pebbles, intricate patterns or designs can be achieved, giving the pool a truly unique and personalized look.
Pebble finishes offer not only aesthetic value but also durability and resistance to chemicals and UV rays. They provide a textured surface that can enhance traction and safety, making them a popular choice for both residential and commercial pools. The choice of pebble finish ultimately depends on personal preferences, desired aesthetics, and the overall style of the pool.

Installing Pools in Challenging Terrain
Installing a swimming pool in challenging terrain can be a difficult task, but it is certainly possible with the right design and construction team. Steep slopes, rocky terrain, and limited access are common challenges that can make it difficult to install a pool in these types of environments. The first step is to survey the site carefully and identify any potential obstacles or challenges that may need to be addressed. It’s also essential to have a thorough understanding of the site’s geology, drainage, and soil composition to ensure a stable and long-lasting pool.
After surveying the site and identifying any potential challenges, the design team can begin to develop a plan that takes into account the unique terrain and surroundings. In some cases, retaining walls may need to be built, or the site may need to be excavated to create a level surface for the pool. Other options may include installing a raised pool or partially above ground pool. By working closely with the design and construction team, it is possible to create a pool that seamlessly blends into the landscape while providing a functional and stunning addition to any property.
